American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO). This organization aims to bring social and economic justice to America by enabling workers to have a voice on the job, in government, and in changing the global economy and their communities.
Bureau of Labor Statistics. This fact-finding agency of the federal government collects, processes, analyzes, and provides essential statistical data regarding a variety of labor-related issues, including employment and unemployment, living conditions, compensation and working conditions, productivity and technology, and employment projections.
National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). This federal agency conducts research, trains professionals, and develops innovative solutions to occupational safety and health problems. Workers can obtain specific information regarding their occupational health or safety problem from NIOSH.
Pennsylvania's Department of Labor and Industry. This site offers information and guidance on a variety of work-related topics of interest to Pennsylvania workers.
Pennsylvania's Department of Labor and Industry, Bureau of Workers' Compensation. This site offers general guidance on Pennsylvania workers' compensation laws, rules, and regulations.
United States Department of Labor and Industry, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). This governmental resource for workers is dedicated to saving lives, preventing injuries, and protecting the health of American workers by working in partnership with working men and women and employers.
United States Department of Labor and Industry, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) - Ergonomics. This governmental resource discusses and provides information on ergonomics and program development to prevent or reduce work-related neck and back injuries.
Preventing injuries and illness or monitoring health or safety conditions at the workplace are ongoing concerns.
If you work at a union shop, you can obtain additional heath and safety information from the International Chapter of your local union. International unions usually have health and safety departments or committees to answer members' questions.
Another outlet is the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA. Ensuring and regulating a safe work environment is this agency's responsibility.
